Dr. Carolyn Smyth is a Research Scientist with Natural Resources Canada. Her research includes assessments of climate change mitigation scenarios for Canada's forest sector including ecosystem modeling, harvested wood product tracking, and substitution benefits of using wood in place of other emissions-intensive products and energy sources. She has contributed to Canada's National Inventory and Biennial Reports, an IPCC TSU expert meeting on National GHG Inventories, a Commission for Environmental Cooperation project, and chairs a working group for the North American Forest Commission.

Nicolas Robert is an expert in forests and the bioeconomy at the European Environment Agency. He leads forest assessments and contributes to integrated environmental assessments. He manages the Forest Information System for Europe. Working at the interface between science and policy, his scientific work focuses on multipurpose forest management, ecosystem services, the forest sector, and the bioeconomy, drawing on data analysis and ecological and economic modelling.

Previously, he held positions in national and international institutions, including the French National Forest Inventory, the European Forest Institute, and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission.

Dr. Roman Michalak is a programme manager in the Joint UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section in Geneva, responsible for the monitoring, analysing and reporting on forests and forest management assessment in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) region. He is also a secretary to the UNECE/FAO Team of Specialists on Monitoring Sustainable Forest Management. Prior to joining the UNECE, Roman worked in several national and international organizations (including the Forest Europe Liaison Unit Warsaw and the Polish Forest Research Institute). As a national expert, he coordinated the development of national forest inventory methodology and national forest assessment reports. He also participated in forest-related international processes, including UNFF, UNFCCC, IPCC and IUFRO.
