EGU24: enhancing our understanding of forests' potential to mitigate climate change

7 November 2023

The EGU General Assembly 2024 (EGU24) is set to take place on 14-19 April 2024 both on-site in Vienna, Austria, and virtually. The event serves as a global gathering of geoscientists, discussing all aspects of the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. EGU’s primary goal is to provide a platform for scientists to showcase their work and engage in discussions with experts across various geoscience fields.

The Call for Abstracts for EGU24 is now open! You can submit your abstract to the session of your choice by 13:00 CET, 10 January 2024.

In particular, ForestPaths brings attention to the PICO session titled ‘Enhancing science-based knowledge on forests’ capacities to mitigate climate change’, convened by the coordinator of the OptFor-EU project. This session aims to enhance our understanding of forests' potential to mitigate climate change by presenting the latest advancements from multi- and interdisciplinary studies, while also taking into account the diverse array of forest values and ecosystem services, particularly in the context of bioeconomy and rural development.

Forest scientists and experts working in other related disciplines, such as climatology, biophysical, and socio-economic modeling, are invited to share their findings within this session, and improve the science-based knowledge on the environmental benefits, the social acceptability and the economic value of forest-based mitigation actions.
