ForestPaths researchers present time-explicit LCA methodology at ISIE webinar

On June 11, ForestPaths partners Amelie Müller and Timo Diepers presented the bw_timex package and the time-explicit Life Cycle Assessment methodology developed within ForestPaths at an online webinar organised by the Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) subgroup of the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE).

The webinar introduced a new framework that accounts for both the timing of processes and the changing conditions under which they occur, allowing temporally resolved product systems to be modelled while remaining within the matrix-based structure of LCA.

The presenters also showcased an open-source software implementation built on Brightway, which enables researchers and practitioners to carry out time-explicit assessments within existing workflows and to integrate future scenarios through databases.

Attendees learned how accounting for time can substantially change LCA results, saw the approach applied to a real-world case study, and were introduced to the open-source tools now available for time-resolved sustainability assessment.

The webinar was part of ISIE's ongoing LCSA webinar series, which brings together researchers and practitioners working on sustainability assessment methodologies.
