Characterisation of European forest disturbances: a new grant call announced by the FORWARDS project

19 November 2024

A call for grants has recently been made public by fellow EU-funded research project FORWARDS. The call targets activities related to charting the disturbances apparent in European forests.

This latest opportunity relates to the project’s stated aim to develop the ForestWard Observatory, which will serve as a resource hub for decision-makers as they seek better understanding of the effects forests can have on climate change. Naturally, any such platform would not be complete without a comprehensive and real-time assessment of forest disturbances and their associated natural phenomena, risks and vulnerabilities. This makes the accumulation of expertise on the subject critical to FORWARDS’ success as it looks to develop tools in the pursuit of ecosystem stabilisation in the face of such disturbances. The aforementioned call is meant to allow for exchanges of critical data and insights in this regard.

The deadline for applications to the European Forest Institute in relation to the call is 31 January 2025. More information about the grant opportunity and its conditions may be found here.
