Open position at JRC, Italy

29 March 2023

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is looking for a researcher who will contribute to the work programme of the Forests and Bioeconomy Unit related to the activities on forests and LULUCF, mainly in the EU but also globally. Based in Ispra, Italy, the successful candidate will work on:

  • supporting modelling of near-real-time carbon fluxes from forests, by combining existing forest growth models (e.g., the Carbon Budget Model) with Earth observation or hydrometeorological data;

  • enhancing the LULUCF sector’s contribution to the EU climate targets, through sectoral and integrated modelling scenarios and analyses of national policies;

  • improving the monitoring and reporting of land-related greenhouse gas fluxes in EU’s Member States;

  • assessing the carbon sinks at global level.

If you have a PhD or at least 5 years of experience in environmental/natural science/forestry, with B2 English, a strong publication record and experience with modelling/analysis of forest and/or carbon fluxes, this sounds like a good fit for you!
