The second Forest Talks webinar places forest policy pathways front and centre

10 February 2025

Horizon Europe projects ForestPaths, ForestNavigator and PathFinder are collaborating once again to organise the next edition of their joint Forest Talks webinar series on 17 March 2025. The format brings together experts and professionals to uncover insights and approaches vital to the future of forest management and its role in addressing climate change.

Following the first webinar’s showcase on efforts to build up a European-wide Common Forest Monitoring System, the three partners will now turn to another crucial topic: “Navigating EU Forest Policy and Pathways in a Changing World”. In that sense, the focus will be on the potential effects of geopolitical changes on EU forest policy and how those may be harnessed to attain a greater degree of sustainability in management practices for this biome. Specific developments that will contextualise the conversation will be the EU and US elections, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the regional polarization experienced across the globe.

A centrepiece of the event will be the participation of Prof. Sten Nilsson, a distinguished researcher with extensive experience in advancing sustainable forest management and shaping international forest policy. Specifically, he is recognised for his comprehensive research on boreal forest policy and his analyses of the global forest sector.

Additionally, representatives from the three projects will also contribute with overviews on their individual endeavours to map out socio-economic drivers that impact their modelling of forest policy. The webinar’s audience will be invited to contribute with questions and views on those critical dimensions and how they can help on the road to climate, biodiversity and bioeconomic targets.

Registration for the webinar is now open via this link. To find out more about Forest Talks and watch its first edition, click here.
