Third edition of ForestTalks: Integrating EO data in National Forest Monitoring and Assessment
ForestPaths is pleased to invite you to the third edition of ForestTalks - our joint webinar series organised together with our sister projects ForestNavigator and PathFinder.
This upcoming session will focus on how Earth Observation (EO) data can be better integrated into national forest monitoring systems and greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting, a topic that is becoming increasingly important for both science and policy.
As countries seek to improve the quality and frequency of their GHG estimates, there is a growing need to better understand the impacts of natural disturbances, forest management and EU forest policies. By bringing together National Forest Inventories, EO data and modelling approaches such as Carbon Budget Models, we can strengthen and harmonise assessments of forest carbon pools under UNFCCC and EU legislation. This webinar aims to explore how these different data sources can be combined effectively, and what challenges and opportunities this integration presents.
During the webinar:
- ForestNavigator will present insights from case studies in Ireland, Czechia and Italy
- ForestPaths and PathFinder will share our approaches to integrating EO data with field-based information
- We will explore the opportunities and limitations of field- versus EO-based datasets
- We will discuss uncertainties in GHG reporting and gather feedback on alternative data integration methods
